The 2011 International Trade Fair on the theme of new products and technologies opened in the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho on August 30.

Almost 400 businesses from provinces and cities across the country and many organisations and businesses from other countries and territories such as Japan, Thailand, Taiwan, Germany, China, Indonesia, the Republic of Korea, Singapore, Laos, Peru, India, Australia and France participated in the event.

The seven-day fair aims to strengthen exchange between domestic and foreign businesses, providing opportunities for them to access modern technology and help improve their competitiveness in the region and the world.

It also creates favourable conditions for domestic businesses to seek potential markets, promote cooperation and investment and set up new branches in the Mekong Delta and nationwide.

On display at the fair are products from the fields of information technology, communications, electronic goods, machinery and equipment for industrial and agricultural production, handicraft products, high quality wooden furniture, products for interior and exterior decoration, food and foodstuff, beverages, cosmetics, garment and textile products and consumer products.

Other activities including trade promotions, conferences, and contract signing ceremonies will also be held as part of the fair, which will run until September 5./.
