Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung allowed the use of an official development assistance (ODA) package worth 3 trillion VND (135 million USD) to carry out climate change adaptation projects during 2015.

The decision was made at a recent meeting of the Government standing members in Hanoi , with the fund sourced from the Support Programme to Respond to Climate Change (SP-RCC).

The money will be spent on mangrove afforestation and sea dyke construction in coastal areas.

The Government leader asked the Ministries of Natural Resources and Environment, Agriculture and Rural Development, Planning and Investment, and Finance, to review the scale of and capital allocation for the projects.

Relevant reports will be submitted to the Prime Minister before September 30 and then to the National Assembly for including the sum in the 2015 state budget estimates.

The PM noted that the disbursement is underway only when procedures for the projects are completed in line with legal regulations.

Launched in Vietnam in 2009, the one-billion-USD SP-RCC is being supported by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), the French Development Agency (AFD), the Australian Government, the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA), the World Bank, and the Republic of Korea’s Eximbank.-VNA
