The 36 th plenum of the fifth Central Committee of the Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) closed on July 21 after two days of working.

The event was attended by CPP President and Senate President Chea Sim, CPP Vice President and Prime Minister Hun Sen, CPP Honorary President and National Assembly Chairman Heng Samrim and 1,876 deputies.

The participating deputies discussed the “Report on the Party in 2010/Early 2011 situation and works, and its objectives for the later part of 2011 and 2012” presented by PM Hun Sen, as well as other issues related to the third Senate election and local elections scheduled for 2012.

The plenum hailed results achieved in the framework of border demarcation and marker planting with Vietnam and Laos and urged that the great and historic task to be completed in 2020.

In the same instance, the plenum supported efforts to seek peace solutions for the border issue with Thailand in order to build a common border line of peace, friendship, cooperation and development.

The plenum reiterated support for Hun Sen to represent the CPP for the post of the Prime Minister in the fifth tenure.

The CPP now has nearly 5.4 million members and holds 90 out of 123 seats in the Cambodian National Assembly./.
