Hanoi (VNA) – The Animals Asia Foundation (AAF) has pledged 50,000 USD of aid to save elephants in the Central Highlands province of Dak Lak between 2016 and 2017.

The AAF and the provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development signed an agreement on a project to protect elephants in the province on May 23.

This is the first time Dak Lak has inked a deal with an international organisation to preserve local wild animals.

Earlier, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development along with the Vietnam CITES Management Authority, and the Dak Lak provincial People’s Committee built small-scale projects on elephant preservation in the locality.

According to the AAF, 60 percent of the aid package will be used to provide equipment and medical treatment for local elephants, while 12,000 USD will be spent on training veterinarians.-VNA
