Vietnam confirmed 794 cases of A/H1N1 flu by 17:00 local time on July 30, with 31 new infections reported.

Since the first case was detected, July 30 is the first day the number of people testing positive for the virus in the north has been higher than in the south--12 and 9 respectively.

Ten more cases were found in the Central Highlands region, while the central region reported no new cases.

To date, 450 patients have recovered and been discharged from hospital. The rest are in stable condition and no fatalities have been reported, according to the Ministry of Health.

The ministry warned the public to protect themselves and the community by cleaning the hands with soap or an antiseptic solution, and keeping the environment and their living spaces clean and hygienic.

Furthermore, people are warned not to use Tamiflu without a doctor’s prescription, as improper use of the drug may cause dangerous complications.

According to the European Centre for Disease Control, by July 30, there were 175,785 confirmed cases of the flu in 145 countries and territories, of which 1,116 were fatal./.
