The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) has asked the General Department of Forestry to implement a national-scale survey and inventory of forests.

The five-year project is estimated to cost 850 billion VND (roughly 40.8 million USD), sourced from both the State and local budgets.

The project is designed to examine and evaluate the country’s total forest acreage and tree reserves, thus drawing up a national forest management data.

In 2011, the project will be carried out on a trial basis in the central province of Ha Tinh and the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong – two out of the country’s 60 localities having forests – to the tune of 30 billion VND./.
