Vietnam confirmed 82 new cases of A/H1N1 on October 8, bringing the total number of infected patients to 9,789 with 20 fatalities by 5 pm the same day.

According to the Health Ministry’s Department of Preventive Medicine and the Environment, of those infected, 8,808 have been discharged from hospital, while the remainder is currently quarantined for treatment.

The epidemic has now spread to 59 out of the country’s 63 provinces and cities, with Hanoi , Ho Chi Minh City , Binh Duong, Lam Dong and Tay Ninh seeing the largest number of patients.

Director of the National Institute for Infectious and Tropical Diseases Nguyen Van Kinh said last week the institute has reported a large number of people who came to be tested for the virus, about 600-700 people each day./.
