ASEAN debates maritime defence, security

Sixty defence officials from 22 countries comprising ASEAN and its dialogue partners gathered at a dialogue meeting on Dec. 7 in Phnom Penh, Cambodia to exchange opinions and experience in peacekeeping and maritime security.

Addressing the opening ceremony, Director of ASEAN Affairs Department of Cambodia’s Ministry of Defence, Maj. Gen Lay Chenda said the two-day meeting, jointly held by Ministries of National Defence of Cambodia and New Zealand , is a great opportunity for defence officials to boost confidence, promote preventive diplomacy and enhance solutions for conflicts.

The director also said the meeting aims to foster cooperation and promote peace and maritime security in the region and the world./.
