Conservatory to present ‘Colour of Music' concert

Norwegian conductor Terje Alexander Grondahl and the HCM City Conservatory of Music symphony orchestra will present classical music by great composers at The Colour of Music concert on Dec. 1.

Grondahl will wield the baton as the orchestra performs 10 pieces ranging from baroque to contemporary music, including Festive Overture by Shostakovich, Sleeping Beauty by Tchaikovsky, Carneval in Paris by Svendsen, and Russian Tango by Grondahl himself.


Doan Hoa and Le Minh Hien will play violin solo and duets of compositions including Vivaldi's The Winter from the Four Seasons, Sarasate's Navara, and Williams's Theme from Schindler's List.

Grondahl studied the trombone, conducting, and composition at Oslo University and the Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatory in St Petersburg , Russia , before going on for postgraduate studies in London and New York .

From 2004 to 2006 he worked as a conductor for His Majesty the King's Guard in Norway .

He has been a professional trombonist in Norway and Denmark for more than 25 years. His compositions have been released in 10 discs.

Hoa, a graduate from the Vietnam National Academy of Music, has performed as a soloist with symphony orchestras and conductors from Japan , Australia , and Norway .

Hien studied at the Hanoi Conservatory of Music, the Moscow Conservatory of Music, and the HCM City Conservatory of Music, and is a guest lecturer at the HCM City conservatory.

The Colour of Music will mark the 55th anniversary of the conservatory and 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Norway and Vietnam .

The concert begins at 8pm at the HCM City Conservatory of Music, 112 Nguyen Du Street , District 1. Tickets costing 200,000-350,000 VND are available at the venue./.
