Central Highlands Dak Lak province held
a solemn ceremony to mark the 35th year of the victory at Buon Ma Thuot
city and the province’s liberation (March 10) and also receive Ho Chi
Minh Order on March 10.
On behalf of the Party and State, President Nguyen Minh Triet honoured
Dak Lak with the Ho Chi Minh Order for the tremendous socio-economic
achievements the province has made over the last 35 years.
On the occasion, he also presented the Labour Order, first class, to Buon Ma Thuot city.
Minister of Construction Do Hong Quang handed over a Prime Ministerial
decision recognising Buon Ma Thuot city as a Class-1 city in Dak Lak
province.
On March 10, 1975, Buon Ma Thuot city and Dak Lak province witnessed an
historical victory that was the starting point of the historic Spring
Offensive Campaign and Uprising in 1975 with the Ho Chi Minh campaign
at its peak, a pivotal event that resulted in the liberation of the
southern region and the re-unification of the country.
Over the past years, the province has maintained a high economic growth rate.
In 2009, Dak Lak posted a GDP growth rate of 11 percent with an annual
per capita income of 13.9 million VND. The poverty rate was reduced to
12.4 percent.
The province produced 989,000 tonnes of food and 380,000 tonnes of
coffee, the latter accounting for 50 percent of the country’s total
output.
Dak Lak province and its centre, Buon Ma Thuot city, also marked their 105th founding anniversary last November.
Buon Ma Thuot city has taken full advantage of its potential for socio-economic development.
During its development, the city’s economic growth has remained high.
The economic structure has shifted to industry and services, helping
reduce the poverty rate to 2.3 percent.
In the next 5-10 years, Dak Lak province will spare no effort to turn
itself into an economic, cultural and social hub in the Central
Highlands region./.
