The export of agro-forestry and fisheries products has gradually recovered with Jan-July turnover of 15.9 billion USD, a 12.4 percent year-on-year increase.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD), brighter forecast for the global economy in the third quarter is a good sign for Vietnamese agro-forestry and fishery products.

Total revenue of this year expected to reach 26.5 billion USD.

Except for rice and rubber, most export staples have seen rises in both volume and value. Agriculture products continued to be major earners, bringing home 8.9 billion USD.

In the 7-month period, the country shipped abroad 1.2 million tonnes of coffee, earning 2.5 billion USD, up 31.6 percent and 25.4 percent, respectively, over the same period last year.

Key markets of Vietnamese coffee are Germany and the US , which account for 12.9 percent and 12.4 percent of the total revenue, respectively.

Tea also contributed 108 million USD, up 4.2 percent, to the country’s agricultural products exports with total volume of 73,000 tonnes, a 5.9 percent rise.

Vietnam maintained its top place among world cashew exporters, shipping 120,000 tonnes for 828 million USD, up 36.5 percent in volume and 19.2 percent in value.

Pepper export also saw a 20 percent increase in earnings with 546 million USD.

However, due to decline in price, rice export continued to slide to 2.1 billion USD.

Seafood export in the 7-month period earned total 3.4 billion USD, a rise of 6.5 percent against the same period last year. The US, Japan and the Republic of Korea still remain largest consumers of Vietnamese seafood.

However, according to the National Agro-Forestry-Fisheries Quality Assurance Department, Vietnamese seafood products still face obstacles due to strict quality requirements of several markets, especially Japan.-VNA
