Thirty-two competitors from six countries including Japan, the
Republic of Korea, China, Indonesia, the Philippines and
Vietnam will compete at the sixth Asian Billiards Championships in the
Carom 1-cushion and 3-cushion categories on July 4-8 in Ho Chi Minh
City.
They will compete for the carom 1-cushion category on July 4-6 and the carom 3-cushion category on July 6-8.
This is a very important tournament, as the best players in Asia will
be chosen to take part in the World Billiards Championships, which will
take place in Porto, Portugal in September.
According to commentators, the three top positions in the one-cushion
carom and three-cushion carom categories will be selected from Japan,
the RoK and Vietnam. However, this will be an uphill task for the
Vietnamese and Japanese players as three out of the six RoK players at
the tournament are ranked in the world’s top ten.
Enthusiasts will also have the chance to watch the artistic performance
of legendary Turkish player Semih Sayginer, who was crowned world
champion in 1992 and 1998, was voted best billiards player in the world
in 2003 and was honoured as one of Turkey’s sporting legends.-VNA
