Investment in science-technology and education-training is a key task
for the future development of the country, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen
Thien Nhan has said.
Nhan made the statement at a
conference in Ho Chi Minh City on August 11 after reviewing the
results of the previous 5 years investment in four leading agencies in
the fields of science-technology and education-training, as well as
presenting their future, long-term investment strategies.
The four, including the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology,
the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences, the Hanoi and HCM City
National Universities , should coordinate closely with relevant
ministries in implementing their development plan during the 2013-2015
period, he said.
The Deputy PM urged relevant
ministries to contribute ideas to the plan for submission to the
National Assembly for approval.
On the same day,
the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Popularisation and
Education, the Vietnam Software and IT Services Association and the
Association of Private Universities and Colleges organised a seminar on
Vietnam ’s educational reform in the information-technology
environment.
Delegates at the event discussed the
role played by IT in the basic and comprehensive renovation of education
and training and the transmission of knowledge in the IT era.
Many described IT as a breakthrough solution in revamping educational
management and content as well as teaching and learning methods.
Educational reform can be only conducted effectively with the support of IT, they said.
In that context, the delegates highlighted the need for the sector to
pay attention to developing IT skills for both teachers and students.-VNA
