An Italian funded project to upgrade the drainage system in the southern city of Ca Mau got underway on June 13.

The project, which will cost 800 billion VND, will repair or replace the 30km of drains that run along the city’s 15 main roads.

The Director of the Ca Mau City Urban Development Project Centre Nguyen Huu Do, said that the project would upgrade the old drains, which were first laid almost 70 years ago.

Although the city has invested billions repairing weak spots in the system, most of the city becomes flooded whenever there are heavy downpours of rain.-VNA
