The Japanese parliament on Dec. 9 ratified an accord on cooperating,
developing and using nuclear energy for peaceful purposes between
Japan and Vietnam.
Three other bilateral
civil nuclear cooperation accords between Japan and Russia , the
Republic of Korea and Jordan were also approved on the same day.
All of the accords, which had been previously
adopted by the House of Representatives, were signed before the world’s
worst nuclear accident in 25 years occurred at the Fukushima nuclear
power plant, following the March 11 earthquake and tsunami.
Once taking effect, the deals will lay foundations for Japanese
businesses to export nuclear power production equipment and technologies
to the concerned countries.
Japan has to date signed
similar agreements with seven countries, including Australia, the UK,
Canada, China, France, Kazakhstan, and the US, and the European Atomic
Energy Community (EAEC)./.
