A solemn meeting was held Hanoi on July 27 to mark the 65 th anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs’ Day.

Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung and National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung attended the event.

Speaking at the function, PM Dung stated that over the past decades, the Party and State have attached importance to taking care of war invalids, sick soldiers and families of fallen soldiers and people who have rendered service to the nation.

The movement of paying the debt of gratitude to those who made great contributions to the country has developed widely, becoming a regular activity of every stratum of people, he said.

Upholding the tradition of “when drinking water, remember its source”, the Party, State and people will continue efforts to improve the material and spiritual lives of people of merits, ensuring that their living standards will be the same as or higher than the average levels.

The Government leader asked all local authorities, agencies and organisations to conduct more communication activities to raise the awareness of the tradition of patriotism and gratitude among all people strata, especially young generations.

He also expressed his wish that people with merits to the country will continue upholding the revolutionary tradition and set examples in implementing the guidelines and policies of the Party and the law of the State, and overcome difficulties not only to build a better life for themselves and their families but also to make even more contributions to the country.-VNA
