Deputies at the ongoing first session of the 13th National Assembly on July 25 elected Truong Tan Sang as State President.
Sang,
who is Party Politburo member and standing member of the Party Central
Committee’s Secretariat, won 487 votes, accounting for 97.4 percent of
the NA deputies.
Newly elected NA Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung presented flowers and congratulated State President Sang on the occasion.
Delivering
his acceptance speech, President Sang affirmed his pride and
acknowledged the great responsibility assigned to him by the Party,
State and people.
He promised to try his best to serve the
nation and people, and to strictly abide by the tasks and power of State
President which are stipulated by the Constitution and law.
The
new State President also promised to constantly seek to improve his
capacity and to follow the moral example of President Ho Chi Minh.
President
Sang said he will closely coordinate with the NA Standing Committee,
the Government, the Supreme People’s Court, the Director of the Supreme
People’s Procuracy, the Fatherland Front Central Committee, sectors and
mass organisations.
He expressed his wish to receive support from
the entire political system, soldiers and people in the nation and
abroad as he seeks to fulfil the assigned tasks.
President Sang
presented a document to nominate Nguyen Thi Doan, Vice State President
of the 12 th tenure, as a candidate for the position of Vice State
President; Nguyen Tan Dung, Prime Minister of the 12 th tenure, as a
candidate for the position of Prime Minister; Truong Hoa Binh, Chief
Judge of the Supreme People’s Court of the 12 th tenure as a candidate
for the position of Chief Judge of the Supreme People’s Court; and
Nguyen Hoa Binh, Secretary of the Party Committee of central Quang Ngai
province tenure as a candidate for the position of Director of the
Supreme People’s Procuracy.
The National Assembly is scheduled to
elect positions of Vice State President, Prime Minister, Chief Judge of
the Supreme People’s Court and Director of the Supreme People’s
Procuracy on July 26./.
