Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong arrived in Hanoi on Dec. 8, concluding the State-level visit to Cambodia at the invitation of King Norodom Sihamoni.

Earlier, Trong and the high-ranking Vietnamese delegation visited Angkor Wat and Bayon temple in the Cambodian province of Seam Reap.

During the visit from Dec. 6-8, Trong held talks with King Sihamoni, met with the King’s father Norodom Sihanouk and mother Queen Norodom Monique Sihanouk, President of the Senate Chea Sim, and Acting President of the National Assembly Nguon Nhel, Prime Minister HunSen, while also receiving a delegation from the Cambodia – Vietnam Friendship Association.

After the visit, Trong cabled a message of thanks to King Sihamoni, high-ranking leaders and people of Cambodia for their warm and kind reception for the Vietnamese delegation.

Hoang Binh Quan, Head of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for External Relations said the visit once again affirms the Vietnamese Party and State’s consistent foreign policy of attaching special importance to deepening relations with neighbouring countries in a stable, sustainable and long-term manner, especially giving priority to preserving and developing the fine neighbourliness, traditional friendship, comprehensive and long-term sustainable cooperation with Cambodia.

The visit strengthened the solidarity and friendship between the two countries, served as a driving force to lift the two countries’ relations to a new height and further promoting close and reliable relations between the Communist Party of Vietnam and the Cambodian People’s Party, said Quan.

He added it also stepped up traditional cooperation, solidarity and friendship among the three fraternal countries on the Indochinese peninsula, enhanced Vietnam’s international position and continued to promote peace, stability, cooperation and development in Southeast Asia and the world./.
