President Truong Tan Sang on Oct. 15 left the capital city of Colombo, wrapping up the State-level visit to Sri Lanka.

On the morning of the same day, at the inaugural ceremony for the Vietnamese Embassy headquarters in Sri Lanka, Sang affirmed that the event vividly reflects friendly relations between Vietnam and Sri Lanka and manifests the Vietnamese State and people’s determination in further strengthening and promoting cooperation with Sri Lanka bilaterally and at regional and international forums.

Sang underlined that it is time to lift bilateral cooperation, especially at a time when Sri Lanka has restored peace after years of civil war.

Sri Lankan Prime Minister D.M Jayaratne said he hoped the two countries’ relations will be further expanded and promoted in all fields.

At the new headquarters, the two leaders have affirmed the consistent policy of attaching importance to developing friendship and multifaceted cooperation for the benefit of the two peoples and prosperity of each country, contributing to peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world.

Earlier the same day, at a reception for leaders of the Sri Lanka-Vietnam Solidarity Movement, Sang affirmed that Vietnam attaches importance to friendship and multifaceted cooperation with Sri Lanka as well as supporting the Movement’s activities.

Sang also stressed the need for more activities to popularise Vietnam’s images and its socio-economic achievements in the South Asian country.

Receiving Sri Lanka Foreign Minister Prof. Gamini Lakshman Peiris, Sang spoke highly of the two countries’ relations and affirmed that Vietnam will continue supporting Sri Lanka in its national reconstruction cause at present./.
