Top sprinter Vu Thi Huong has efficiently recovered from recent injury
to compete in the women's 100 and 200m at the Southeast Asian Games next
week.
Huong, who suffered a stretched thigh muscle
during a six-month training stint in Germany , regained her top form
by clocking a time of 11.50 seconds at the Mekong Delta Athletics
Championship last month.
The athlete has managed to win golds in her favourite event since 2005.
"I feel confident in competing for a gold medal at the SEA Games in Indonesia this week," she confirmed.
"Having spent the last two months recovering I'm eager to get back on
track. I expect a challenge though, especially from the Thai sprinters."
The 25-year-old won a silver medal in the 200m and a bronze in the 100m at the Asian Games in Guangzhou last year.
HCM City-born Truong Thanh Hang, who won two Asian Games silver medals
in the 1,500m and 800m events alongside a clutch of gold medals at the
Asian Athletics Championships in Japan and the Borsig Track and Field
Tournament in Germany , also feels positive about the upcoming SEA
Games.
Hang and her boyfriend Nguyen Dinh Cuong, who will
be a medal contender in the men's 800m and 1,500m, have their sights
firmly set on the largest regional sporting event.
The
national team will be bolstered by the addition of Thanh Hoa
pole-vaulter Le Thi Phuong who beat her own national record with a new
height of 4.15m at the national championships in September.
The event will be held in Palembang , Indonesia from Nov.12-16./.
