UN Chief arrives in Yangon for official visit to Myanmar

United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon arrived Yangon on July 3, beginning his two-day official visit to Myanmar.

The UN Chief is scheduled to meet Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council of Myanmar Senior-General Than Shwe in the new capital of Nay Pyi Taw.

Earlier, Secretary-General Ban visited Singapore on July 2 and met Singapore’s Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong.

They reaffirmed the long-standing ties and strong cooperation between Singapore and the United Nations and exchanged views on various challenges facing the international community, including the economic crisis./.
