United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has applauded Vietnam
’s cooperation and strong support for the organisation, especially the
country’s efforts in the implementation of the One UN Initiative.
The UN chief made the praise at a meeting with Vietnamese Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh in New York on Sept. 26.
He also hailed the results that Vietnam , ASEAN member nations and
related countries have achieved in the implementation of the Declaration
on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC), saying he hopes that
the parties will continue their endeavours for regional peace and
security.
Moon urged Vietnam to continue
playing an active role in other international and regional issues,
including the UN meeting on sustainable development scheduled to take
place next year.
For his part, FM Minh affirmed that
Vietnam will continue to make contributions to issues of common
concerns of the international community and the UN, striving for peace
and stability in the region.
Minh introduced
Vietnam ’s socio-economic development plan for the next five years and
expressed his wish that Vietnam will receive more support from UN
bodies in the implementation of this plan.
On the
same day, FM Minh had separate meetings with his counterparts from the
US , China , Russia , Thailand , Kazakhstan , Canada and
Slovakia .
In Minh’s meeting with Chinese Foreign
Minister Jiang Jiechi, the two sides exchanged views on bilateral
relations in the recent past and discussed the promotion of the
relationship between the two countries in the coming time.
Minh also held talks with the Directors General of the UN Development
Programme and the UN Population Fund, during which the directors
committed to effectively deploy cooperation programmes with Vietnam
during the 2012-2016 period./.
