Vietnam and Norway have agreed to prioritise economic, trade and
investment cooperation, particularly in the fields of shipping,
shipbuilding, energy, oil and gas and seafood.
The agreement was reached during Deputy Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son’s visit to Norway from Oct. 31-Nov. 1.
During
the two-day visit, Deputy FM Son held a working session with Minister
of Industry and Trade Giske Trond and joined State Secretary Espen Barth
Eide at the fifth annual political consultation between the two foreign
ministries.
The Deputy FM joined Norwegian Foreign Minister
Jonas Gar Store at the 40th anniversary celebration of the establishment
of the two countries’ diplomatic ties and opened a seminar on Vietnam
tourism promotion.
At the events, the Norwegian side pledged its
continued provision of official development assistance to Vietnam,
focusing on coping with climate change and helping Vietnam implement the
second phase of the United Nations programme on reducing emissions
through fighting deforestation and forest degradation.
The two
sides discussed in-depth international and regional issues of mutual
concern and were unanimous in boosting bilateral cooperation in
multilateral forums and international organisations, especially the
United Nations, the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) and the Association of
Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN)./.
