President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour (VGCL), Dang Ngoc Tung is attending the Singapore National Trades Union Congress (NTUC), according to the VGCL newspaper, Lao Dong.

Addressing the opening ceremony on Dec. 6, Tung affirmed international solidarity with Singapore’s trade union and the regional and global trade unions, together striving for a better life for workers.

At the event, NTUC President John De Payva and Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong spoke highly of trade union organisation and workers’ contributions to Singapore’s economic growth, especially during the difficult times caused by the financial crisis and global economic downturn from 2008 to 2009.

With 670,000 members out of 4 million people in the country, NTUC sets a target of admitting one million members by 2015./.
