The Vietnam-Spain Friendship Association convened its second national congress for the 2011-2015 term in the capital city of Hanoi on Oct. 20.

Reports delivered at the congress showed that the association has achieved a number of encouraging results, contributing to the friendship, cooperation and mutual understanding between the Vietnamese and Spanish people.

Annually, the association has worked with the Spanish Embassy in Vietnam to organise a wide range of activities to celebrate the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries as well as the National Day of Spain.

Addressing the event, Spanish Ambassador to Vietnam Fernando Curcio Ruigomez said the friendship between the Spanish and Vietnamese people is a valuable asset of the two nations.

The Spanish Embassy in Vietnam has always supported activities of the Vietnam-Spain Friendship Association as well as promoted cultural exchanges and sharing of information to strengthen the solidarity, friendship and multifaceted cooperation between the two countries, the ambassador added.

The congress elected a 36-member executive committee for the next term, with Deputy General Director of the Vietnam News Agency Nguyen Hoai Duong as President./.
