Vietnamese Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and King of Cambodia Norodom Sihamoni have affirmed resolve to foster and strengthen the fine neighbourliness, traditional friendship and comprehensive, long-lasting cooperation between the two countries.

They described the relationship as an invaluable treasure of the two nations, one of factors to create the strength of both countries and a firm guarantee for the two nations’ younger generations to live in peace and happiness for ever.

The relationship is also a contribution from both countries to strengthening peace, stability, cooperation and development in Southeast Asia and the world at large, they said at their talks in Phnom Penh on Dec. 6 during General Secretary Trong’s State-level friendship visit to Cambodia from Dec. 6-8 at the invitation of King Norodom Sihamoni.

At their talks, King Norodom Sihamoni welcomed the visit to Cambodia by General Secretary Trong, describing it as an important event to promote the two countries’ fine neighbourliness, traditional friendship, comprehensive cooperation in a deep, stable and sustainable level.

The King expressed his deep gratitude to the Party, Government and people of Vietnam for their support and valuable assistance to the Cambodian people during their struggle for national liberation, escaping from the genocidial regime, recovering and developing the country.

General Secretary Trong once again affirmed Vietnam’s consistent external policy of attaching importance and giving top priority to maintaining and developing the Vietnam-Cambodia fine neighbourliness, traditional friendship and comprehensive, long-lasting cooperation, for independence, freedom and happiness of people in each country, and for peace, cooperation and development in the region and the world.

After the talks, General Secretary Trong and his entourage visited former King Norodom Sihanouk and the Queen Mother. Former King Norodom Sihanouk affirmed the unseparated Cambodia-Vietnam relations, saying that the two sides need to continue tightening their cooperative ties and promoting their tradition.

On this occasion, General Secretary Trong on behalf of the Party, State and people of Vietnam presented 100 computers to the King of Cambodia, which he will present to Cambodian schools and education centres.

General Secretary Trong invited King Norodom Sihamoni, former King Norodom Sihanouk and the Queen Mother to make regular visits to Vietnam. King Norodom Sihamoni accepted the invitation with pleasure./.
