Vietnam, Cuba look to bolster ties

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has emphasised the need for enhanced cooperation in economics, trade and investment based on good terms of politics and diplomacy between Vietnam and Cuba .

PM Dung made the statement at a meeting with visiting First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba (CPC) Central Committee and President of the State Council and the Council of Ministers, Raul Castro, in Hanoi on July 8.

He urged the two sides to prioritise cooperation in the fields of untapped potential, including agriculture, energy, telecommunications and pharmaceuticals.

Dung said Raul Castro’s Vietnam visit is of special significance as it contributes to boosting the comprehensive development of the two countries’ cooperative relations in all areas.

The Vietnamese Government is delighted by great achievements Cuban people has recorded under the leadership of the CPC, the PM said.

Vietnam will do its utmost to partner with Cuba in implementing agreements reached by the two countries’ leaders during the recent visit to Cuba by Vietnamese Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and the ongoing visit to Vietnam by Raul Castro, he affirmed.

The Vietnamese Government leader also shared Vietnam ’s experience in the cause of national construction, renewal and socio-economic development.

For his part, Raul Castro expressed his delight to visit Vietnam and witness remarkable achievements attained by the Party, State and people of Vietnam .

He described the fruits as a valuable source of encouragement for the Cuban Party, State and people during the process of construction and socio-economic development.

Cuba always wishes to foster and consolidate the multi-faceted cooperation with Vietnam , Raul Castro said.

He also expressed his hope to receive more Vietnam ’s support in construction and agricultural development, especially in the cultivation of food crops and industrial plants, as well as at regional and international forums.-VNA
