A delegation of the Communist Party of Vietnam led by Deputy Head of the Party Central Committee’s External Relations Commission Vuong Thua Phong attended the Congress of the Democratic Socialist Party (PDS) of Germany in Berlin from Dec. 1-6.

Eighty foreign delegations from 50 countries and 7000 delegates and guests attended the congress.

The congress focused on assessing the situation in Germany and Europe in the context of the complex development of the European public debt crisis, and discussing and proposing operational policies of the party to prepare for the German Parliament Election in the two years to come.

It also defined measures for the organisational structure of the PDS toward expanding rights of party members and diminishing the leadership structure in the party.

At the congress, the Vietnamese delegation met with leaders of the PDS and had a working session with the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung of the PDS to discuss cooperative relations between the two Parties.

In the framework of the working visit, the delegation paid a fact-finding trip to Magdeburg city to study the experience of the PDS in foreign affairs activities and socio-economic development in localities in Germany. /.
