Vietnam and Thailand have agreed to work towards signing of a mutual recognition agreement on control and supervision of quality and hygiene safety of aquatic products.

The agreement was reached during a visit to Thailand by Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development and Head of General Department of Fisheries, Vu Van Tam from June 26-30.

Under the agreement, both sides agreed to cooperate in preventing and solving the two countries’ fishing vessels encroaching on each other’s territorial waters, increasing the exchange of information and experience on aquaculture, and the prevention and control of sea product diseases as well as promoting trade of seafood between the two countries.

They also agreed to boost cooperation in research and the training of technical workers and managers in the fisheries sector.

Following the agreement, they will set up a working group on fisheries cooperation based on a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in agriculture between the two countries’ ministries of agriculture, aiming at implementing bilateral cooperation activities.-VNA
