Vietnam and Thailand have agreed to work towards signing of a mutual
recognition agreement on control and supervision of quality and hygiene
safety of aquatic products.
The agreement was reached during a visit to Thailand by Deputy
Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development and Head of General
Department of Fisheries, Vu Van Tam from June 26-30.
Under the
agreement, both sides agreed to cooperate in preventing and solving the
two countries’ fishing vessels encroaching on each other’s territorial
waters, increasing the exchange of information and experience on
aquaculture, and the prevention and control of sea product diseases as
well as promoting trade of seafood between the two countries.
They also agreed to boost cooperation in research and the training of technical workers and managers in the fisheries sector.
Following
the agreement, they will set up a working group on fisheries
cooperation based on a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in
agriculture between the two countries’ ministries of agriculture, aiming
at implementing bilateral cooperation activities.-VNA
