The northern Laotian province of Luang Prabang plans to launch its new radio and television station, built with Vietnam’s assistance, this September.

The Vice Director of the Luang Prabang Information and Culture Department, Somlith Boupphapanya, said that the station, which was built earlier this year at a cost of 57 billion VND funded by the Vietnamese Government, includes a television station that covers seven districts in the province and an AM radio station that covers 12 districts as well as other northern provinces in the country.

According to Somlith Boupphapanya, the province’s existing television station can only cover four districts and its radio station covers just 85 percent of the province.

Under Luang Prabang’s socio-economic development plan for 2011 - 2015, its radio and television station will also improve the quality of its news programmes to meet increasing demands from the public./.
