Vietnam’s Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh held talks with his
counterpart from China Yang Jiechi on July 11 in Phnom Penh on the
sidelines of the 45th ASEAN Foreign Ministers Meeting (AMM 45).
At the talks, the two sides exchanged views on the two countries’
relations in the past and ways to boost Vietnam-China comprehensive
strategic cooperative partnership in the time to come as well as
international and regional issues.
For the
Vietnam-China relations, the two sides affirmed the importance of the
comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership, saying that the stable
development of the bilateral relations is in conformity with the common
interest of the two peoples, benefiting peace, stability and development
of the region and the world.
The two sides agreed on
the necessity to maintain the exchange of delegations and meetings
between the two countries and to promote friendship exchange and
comprehensive cooperation between the two countries.
Both sides were unanimous in beefing up cooperation in economics, trade
and fields that the two countries have potentials, especially in
infrastructure construction, transport and communications.
They agreed that the two foreign ministries should enhance
coordination and make practical and effective contributions to bilateral
cooperation in above-mentioned fields.
On the sea
issues, the two sides affirmed to settle all disputes through peaceful
and friendly negotiations with mutual respect to legitimate interests
based on common awareness reached between the two countries’ leaders and
the agreement on basic principles guiding the settlement of sea issues.
FM Minh raised Vietnam’s concern over recent
complications in the East Sea, voiced the opposition against the
establishment of Sansha city and the international invitation for bids
at nine lots within Vietnam’s exclusive economic zone and continental
shelf, and affirmed the necessity to comply with international laws,
especially the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea and
the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea.-VNA
