A 38 year-old woman from An Thai Trung commune, Cai Be district of southern Tien
Giang province, died of bird flu on Feb. 23, becoming the first victims of its
kind in the country in 2010.
The Preventive Medicine and Environment
Department of the Health Ministry announced the case on Feb. 26 and warned all
the people to raise awareness of poultry raising and trafficking.
The
victim was ill on Feb. 13 and took medicine at home before going to the communal
medical station.
On Feb. 21, the patient became worse. She had a pain in
her chest and had difficulty breathing. She was sent to the Dong Thap provincial
hospital, but her condition worsened and died at 9 a.m. on Feb. 23.
On
Feb. 23, the Ho Chi Minh City Pasteur Institute said that tests showed the woman
was infected with type A/H5N1 bird flu virus. She had killed and cooked sick
waterfowl./.
