The Asian Development Bank (ADB) will provide a technical assistance worth 1.5 million USD to improve traffic safety and climate change adaptation on national highway 1A running through central Ninh Thuan and Binh Thuan provinces.

An agreement on the assistance was signed in Hanoi on Dec. 20 by Deputy Governor of the State Bank of Vietnam Le Minh Hung and ADB Country Director in Vietnam Tomoyuki Kimura.

The project has a total investment of 1.67 million USD, of which 1.5 million USD will come from the Japanese fund for poverty reduction, which is managed by ADB, and the remainder will be shouldered by the Vietnamese Government.

The project aims to upgrade road infrastructure, improve capacity for local traffic management agencies and put forward technical solutions to coping with natural disasters on the road section. It will also enhance public awareness of traffic safety.

The 180-km road section runs along the coastline and is vulnerable to climate change, especially floods caused by downpours and high tides./.
