The export turnover from Vietnam ’s agro-forestry and fisheries products in the first six months of this year hit 13.6 billion USD, a year on year increase of 14 percent.

The figures were released at a conference to review the agricultural sector’s performance over the first two quarters held by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development on June 19.

Despite the continuing economic difficulties, the sector has maintained a healthy growth rate, with the output from arable land reaching 20.2 million tonnes, up 500,000 tonnes compared with the same period last year.

The output of livestock has increased by 5.7 percent and the production of animal feed has risen by 10.6 percent.

According to the ministry, from January to June, the forestry sector expanded its acreage by 8.9 percent and the output of aquatic products and salt also rose by 3.2 percent.

In the first five months of this year, Vietnam ’s export turnover to the EU jumped by a staggering 22 percent when compared with last year, due to the booming sales of computers, electronic spare parts and mobile phones, said the General Department of Customs.

It announced that over the last five years, Germany, the UK, the Netherlands, France, Italy, Spain, Belgium, Austria, Switzerland and Poland have accounted for 90 percent of the country’s total exports.-VNA
