– Speaker of Algerian Council of the Nation Abdelkader Bensalah hosted a reception for outgoing Vietnamese Ambassador to Algeria Vu The Hiep on July 20.

Speaking at the meeting, Speaker Bensalah lauded Vietnam for its achievements in aspects in recent years, noting that the country’s successes in economic development set a good example for Algeria to learn from.

Algeria wishes to foster multi-faceted cooperation with Vietnam, he stressed.

The speaker congratulated Ambassador Hiep on his three-year mission in Algeria and praised his efforts in further strengthening the long-standing relations between the two countries.

For his part, the Vietnamese ambassador said the trust and mutual understanding between the two nations have been beefed up by regular delegation exchanges at all levels.

They included the visits by Speaker of the Algerian People’s National Assembly Mohamed Larbi Ould Khelifa to attend the 132nd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU-132) in Hanoi in March 2015 and Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung to Algeria in June last year, he added.

Trade between the two countries rose to 250 million USD in 2014 from 132 million USD in 2012.

The Bir Seba joint venture between Vietnam, Algeria, Thailand has exploited about 15,000 barrels of crude oil daily since it was launched in 2002.-VNA
