A training course on the WildScan wildlife protection app was kicked off on May 11 in Hanoi by the Biodiversity Conservation Division (BCD) under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment and the Freeland organisation.

The activity is part of the Asia Regional Response to Endangered Species Trafficking (ARREST) programme, sponsored by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

The app is a new tool to assist the campaign against illegal wildlife trade, providing a means to identify endangered species sold to consumers and rapidly report their sale.

According to Hoang Thi Thanh Nhan, Deputy Head of the BCD, the app is a new approach assisting not only law enforcement agencies but also the community in its efforts to report illegal wildlife trafficking.-VNA
