Mexico City (VNA) – Embassies of Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam in Mexico have presented 10 wheelchairs to the Federico Gomez Children’s Hospital in Mexico City at a recent charity event.

At the event, Filipino Ambassador Catalino Jr Dilem Reinante, who is also President of the ASEAN Committee in Mexico City, gave a brief introduction about ASEAN’s history, the establishment of the ASEAN Community at the end of this month and recent activities to foster ties with Mexico.

The donation is a contribution to Mexico’s child care and protection efforts, he said.

Staff of the five ASEAN member states’ embassies also took the occasion to donate blood at the hospital.

Founded in 1943, the Federico Gomez Children’s Hospital provides healthcare services for 900 children per day and currently has more than 200 inpatients.

About 90 percent of its services are offered free of charge.-VNA
