The ASEAN-EU Joint Cooperation Committee (JCC) held its 21st meeting in Jakarta, Indonesia on January 24, with the aim of discussing measures to enhance their cooperation and dialogue partnership in the time to come.

Delegates agreed that since the adoption of the 2013-2017 Bandar Seri Begawan Plan of Action to strengthen the ASEAN-EU enhanced partnership in April 2012 and the EU's accession to the ASEAN Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in July 2012, the bilateral relationship has been broadened and deepened.

The two sides exchanged views on the development of their respective region, and prospects for their trade and investment ties. They underlined the value of consultations between the ASEAN and EU economic ministers to further strengthen these ties.

The EU welcomed the progress achieved in ASEAN integration and the building of an ASEAN Community by 2015 and reaffirmed its support to the centrality of ASEAN in the evolving regional architecture.

Both sides were satisfied with the progress made to strengthen cooperation in the areas of science, technology , and civil aviation as well as looked forward to the EU-ASEAN Aviation Summit to take place on February 11-12 in Singapore.

They also highly valued their relations in human rights, discussed their increasing cooperation in the context of the ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF), and looked forward to the next session of the ARF Inter-Sessional Support Group Meeting on Confidence Building Measures and Preventive Diplomacy in Brussels on April 7-9.

ASEAN and the EU welcomed the successful ASEAN-EU High Level Dialogue on Maritime Cooperation, held on November 18-19, 2013 in Jakarta, which allowed for an in-depth exchange on different aspects of maritime security and the identification of different follow-up actions. An outcome document will be presented to the next ASEAN-EU Ministerial Meeting.-VNA
