ASEAN and Japan Foreign Ministers and senior diplomats attended a special meeting in Indonesia capital city of Jakarta on April 9 to discuss issues relating to the earthquake and tsunami occurring in Japan last March.

Vietnamese Deputy Foreign Minister Dao Viet Trung led a Vietnamese delegation to the meeting.

Speaking at the meeting, Japan Foreign Minister Takeaki Matsumoto briefed participants about the latest process in surmounting the country’s earthquake and tsunami consequences and affirmed Japan’s commitment in providing accurate and timely information on the quake-hit nuclear power plants.

Participants committed to boosting sharing experiences and cooperation in coping with natural disasters. They also discussed a draft Declaration on ASEAN- Japan strategic partnership and Action Plan for implementation of the partnership for the period 2011-2015

Earlier, Trung had a meeting with Matsumoto, during which he affirmed the government and people of Vietnam attach great importance to the Vietnam-Japan strategic partnership, and are willing to assist Japan within its capacity.

Trung said he believed that with their will and resolve, the government and people of Japan would overcome difficulties, restore and further develop.

Matsumoto thanked the sentiments and support the government and people of Vietnam have extended to Japan at the difficult time.

He also highly valued the Japan-Vietnam strategic partnership and said that Japan is ready to share with Vietnam experience and knowledge in response to natural disasters and nuclear power development./.
