ASEAN labour inspectors meet in the Philippines

The two-day conference will examine ASEAN good practices on labor inspection, training and capacity building for labor inspectors, and challenges and solutions to inspection and emerging issues.
In her opening remark, Secretary of the Filipino Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Rosalinda Baldoz said event is meant to promote regional partnerships and strengthen the network of labor inspectorates within the bloc.
It is also intended to develop labor inspection guidelines for local workers and migrant-reliant sectors, which would serve as a benchmark for the ASEAN member states to better protect and promote the rights and welfare of local and migrant workers through labor inspections.
Particular challenges related to work sector, age, and legal status of migrants and local workers will also come up for discussion, she said.
The first conference of this kind was held in Ha Long city, the northern province of Quang Ninh in October 2010.-VNA
