ASEAN Secretary-General Le Luong Minh has said the ASEAN-China relations have made important contributions to the maintenance of peace, stability and prosperity in the region.

During the October 17 talks with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, the association leader said both sides should use the 10th anniversary of the strategic partnership as a chance to deepen mutual trust and pragmatic cooperation in order to lift ASEAN-China ties to new height.

Wang affirmed that ASEAN neighbouring countries is the priority in China ’s foreign policy.

He noted that during their recent visits to Southeast Asian countries, Chinese President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Keqiang offered a number of proposals to strengthen bilateral ties and outlined the future direction for China-ASEAN relations.

Both sides should perfectly implement the consensus agreed by their leaders and strengthen cooperation in politics, trade, connectivity, finance, security, maritime and cultural exchange, he said.

The same day, Minh also met Chinese State Councilor Yang Jiechi.

The ASEAN leader is paying an official visit to China from October 16-19 at Wang’s invitation, with an aim to deepen the ASEAN-China relations.
