The 12th conference of ASEAN Ministers Responsible for Information (AMRI) and the third AMRI+3 meeting concluded in Nay Pyi Taw in Myanmar on June 12 with the adoption of a joint statement which called for enhancing information and media cooperation among the ASEAN member countries.

During the meetings, the participants underlined the significance of cooperation in the fields, saying that a stronger coordination and effective communication among ASEAN member states will help hasten the building of an ASEAN Community by 2015.

They also passed a Declaration on Socially Responsible Media for a Peaceful and Prosperous Community, which is expected to serve as an instructive document to help further strengthen links within ASEAN in the field of information and communications.

They called for the set-up of three working groups related to digital broadcasting, training and production.

At the AMRI+3 meeting, the participants discussed the cooperation between ASEAN and its East Asian partner countries Japan, China and the Republic of Korea, while proposing measure to further bolster the ties in IT and communications in the future.

They also reviewed the ASEAN-China cooperation in the fields.-VNA
