ASEAN senior officials met in the central province of Quang Nam on May 17 and 18, discussing measures to implement the 16 th ASEAN Summit’s results.

The meeting (ASEAN-SOM), chaired by ASEAN SOM Vietnam Pham Quang Vinh, also discussed preparations for the Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (AMM) and related events, which will take place in Hanoi from July 19-23.

They completed the draft third Protocol on amendments to the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia (TAC) to submit to the AMM, which is expected to pave the way for ASEAN partners to joint the TAC. The officials also discussed measures to boost cooperation between ASEAN and their partners, and assist in the compilation of the draft Master plan, to be submitted to the 17 th ASEAN Summit to be held in Hanoi in October, 2010.

The participants spent much time to exchange views on emerging regional structures and agreed to coordinate to build an ASEAN common stance, which Vietnam , as ASEAN Chair, will present at the G-20 Summit in Canada on June 26-27./.
