As many as 2,500 representatives from governmental and private agencies and organisation responsible for disaster management in 63 countries in the Asia-Pacific region are gathering in Bangkok for the sixth Asian Ministerial Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction.

During the five-day conference, participants discuss investment needed to enable each country to promote readiness to each community so they can recover quickly if hit by a disaster.

The conference primarily focuses on enhancing local knowledge and awareness to be ready and make a rapid recovery when a disaster strikes, increasing public investment in managing disaster risks and climate change to protect and maintain the communities in the aftermath, and understanding the roles of private and government sectors in reducing disaster risks.

The event is co-hosted by the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation and the United Nations International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (UNISDR).-VNA
