The Australian Government will provide 159.1 million AUD (around 3.3 trillion VND) in official development assistance (ODA) to Vietnam in the 2013 – 2014 fiscal year, according to the Communist Party of Vietnam’s website.

This is part of the Australian Government’s commitment to increase its total aid budget to 5.7 billion AUD from 5.2 billion AUD in the year.

Australian Ambassador to Vietnam Hugh Borrowman said Australia remains strongly committed to assisting Vietnam to overcome poverty and ensure sustainable development, as demonstrated by the 6 million AUD increase in ODA funding from the previous fiscal year.

Managed by the Australian Agency for International Development (AusAID), Australia’s aid programme in Vietnam focuses on five main areas of human resource development, infrastructure, reducing the negative impacts of climate change, improving public health by increasing access to safe water and sanitation, and economic reform.-VNA
