The Seafood Importers Association of Australia (SIAA) appreciates the quality of Vietnamese seafood, said SIAA Chairman Norman Grant after his fact-finding trip to Vietnam.

The statement was made at a press conference in Ho CHi Minh City on June 25, which was organised by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP) and SIAA.

International media reporting that Vietnam’s fisheries do not ensure hygiene safety standards and contain high antibiotic residue is the biggest barrier that prevents Vietnam’s seafood exports to Australia, stressed Grant.

After the fact-finding trip, participated by SIAA representatives and a number of Australian reporters, accurate information about Vietnam’s seafood will be issued, said the chairman, adding that it will be very helpful to Australian consumers.

According to Grant, his delegation will discuss and broadcast what they found during its trip to Vietnam to Australians.

Australia imports around 200,000 tonnes of seafood every year, a quarter of which is from Vietnam. Last year, Vietnam’s seafood exports to Australia reached 182 million USD.-VNA
