Blue chips had a mixed performance on April 22, resulting in an improvement on the southern market and a decline on the northern market.

On the Hochiminh Stock Exchange, the VN-Index advanced 0.05 percent to end at 562.51 points.

The market was mixed with 85 gainers, 102 decliners and 121 stocks remained flat.

Market trading volume fell 7 percent to 91.6 million shares worth 1.52 trillion VND (70.7 million USD), a decrease of 7.9 percent.

The VN30 Index, tracking the 30 largest codes by market value and liquidity, surged 0.06 percent to end at 594 points.

This basket was mixed with advancing stocks nearly equalising the number of losers by 12 to 14 - and four remained flat.

Duc Long Gia Lai Group JSC (DLG) was the most active code on the southern market with more than 10.4 million of its shares being traded. It also rose by 6.3 percent to reach the ceiling price of 10,100 VND.

On contrary, on the Hanoi Stock Exchange, the HNX-Index fell 0.26 percent to finish at 82.89 points. The northern market was also mixed with 79 advancing stocks, 105 losing ones and 181 flat stocks.

The market's trading volume was lower than Tuesday as more than 37 million shares were traded worth 457.5 billion VND (21 million USD), two-thirds the volume of the day before.

The HNX30 Index lost 0.36 percent to stand at 157.53 points. In this basket, only six stocks advanced, 15 declined and nine stayed unchanged.

Some blue chips gained higher value, but were unable to drag the market up. Vietnam Construction and Import-Export JSC (VCG) and the Asia Commercial Bank (ACB) rose by 0.79 and 1.23 percent, respectively.

KLF Joint Venture Global Investment JSC (KLF) was the most active code on the northern market with 11 million of its shares being traded. However, it dropped by 5.26 percent to 9,500 VND.

Foreign investors remained as net buyers, totalling a net buying value of 163.8 billion VND (7.58 million USD) on both markets.-VNA
