Several supermarkets and businesses in Ho Chi Minh City are intensifying the export of Vietnamese products to foreign countries to serve overseas Vietnamese on the occasion of the upcoming Tet (Lunar New Year).

A representative of the Big C supermarket chain said that it recently exported four containers of Tet specialities to the supermarket chain of France’s Casino Group in France, Brazil and Thailand.

Tran Thanh Phu, Director of the Tan Dong Co. Ltd, said that on this occasion, his company will export about two tonnes of Chung cake (square glutinous rice cake), a traditional food usually eaten during the Tet holiday, to the European market.

Meanwhile, the Vinamit Company has prepared about 20 tonnes of dried fruits and agricultural products to sell to the US, Canadian and Chinese markets.

Supermarkets and businesses have also paid attention to popularising Vietnamese products to the world through export promotion activities.

In 2013, the Metro Cash and Carry Vietnam Company and Singapore-based Metro trade office cooperated with several Vietnamese businesses to supply agricultural products worth six million USD to Metro stores around the world.

The business expects to double its contract value in 2014.-VNA
