Ca Mau (VNA) – The People’s Committee of the southernmost province of Ca Mau has directed authorities from district to communal level to support farmers in the drought-hit areas, said Chairman Nguyen Tien Hai.

According to the provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, 36,000 households are suffering from losses due to the recent drought which damaged over 50,000 hectares of rice.

Families whose fields were damaged by 30-70 percent will receive around 1-1.5 million VND (45 – 67.5 USD) per hectare in cash. The total aid amounts to nearly 90 billion VND (4.05 million USD) sourced from central and local budgets.

Provincial agencies said the number of affected households is still rising. Local authorities are urgently evaluating the level of damage to create assistance plans.-VNA
