The ongoing visit by Chairman of the Russia’s State Duma Committee on Education Vyyacheslav Nikonov to Cambodia aims to enhance the parliamentary ties between the two nations.

The December 3-7 visit is made at the invitation of Cambodian National Assembly President Heng Sarim.

During their December 4 meeting in Phnom Penh, the two sides agreed that Cambodia and Russia have enjoyed growth in various fields, including economics, trade, investment, and anti-terrorism.

The Russian side vowed to boost investment in Cambodia in the coming time and suggested Cambodia facilitate the building of a Russian language centre in the country.

The two sides signed an agreement on expanding a direct air route from Russia to Cambodia , and a decree on cooperation in culture, tourism, human resources training, and overseas student exchanges.

More than 8,000 Cambodian students are now learning in Russia while Russian tourists to Cambodia numbers over 10,000.

The Cambodian NA President expressed his gratitude to Russia for their assistance in the past as well as the present, saying that Cambodia considers Russia its good friend.-VNA
